Mom’s Smile, Granny’s Eyes II

Through gathering fragments of intimate family histories consisting of photographs, oral stories, and my imagination --Mom's Smile Granny's Eyes II weaves together portraits of my maternal grandmother, Mom, and my great-grandmother, Granny, revealing their conflicting relationship and ideas around a "better life." Even from a distance and despite Mom's smile, Granny's Eyes questions whether her daughter's decision to move from their homeland of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to pursue a better life in America was good. At the same time, the tapestry critiques the perception of an immigrant's success and asks if life in America is better after all.
