Malene Djenaba Barnett is an artist and surface pattern designer redefining Black cultural aesthetics within the built environment. Inspired by her African Caribbean heritage and pre-colonial visual languages, she creates site-specific ceramic tile installations and collectible objects that transform museums, cultural institutions, and public spaces into living legacy experiences.

My work seeks to create connections between past, present, and future, honoring inherited knowledge while envisioning new narratives across generations.
Through repetitive, craft-based processes: material, pattern, and architectural references, I create works from ceramic carving to large-scale installations which invite viewers to consider how the spaces we inhabit carry histories that continue to shape our collective experience while exploring the relationships between place, identity, ancestry, and time.
